Rooting Nook Color using SD card

Well I am starting a small post on how to root nook color for noobs.... Being a noob myself (got the nook yesterday only and I know Android is something which has Angry Birds apart from Iphone), I will be mentioning few links and steps on soft rooting nook and will also explain the terms as far as I can understand.

Few explanations:
1. Soft rooting nook means, creating a android OS image on a SD card and then booting the nook with that SD card, just like you do a boot of a PC using floppy or a CD/DVD. The real NOOK OS is not removed.
2. There are many OSes available on different forums. You can choose any. I chose something called CM7 (Donno what it actually means). More on that later

Steps to Soft Root a nook color:
1. First and foremost register your nook before even thinking abt rooting. If you thought about rooting before registering, Prof X will blow your mind away.
2. You reached here, that means you survived the assault. Now get a Micro SD card. I would suggest at least 2 GB. Preferably Class 6 or above. In worst case scenario, Class 2 will also work, but will be considerably slow. I am doing this with a 4GB Class 4 card.
3. You will need a MicroSD adapter card to format this card and burn the image.
4. You can find steps to burn the image on the card from here--->
Just follow the steps of burning a image on the SD card. if you understand other stuff there good enough. If not, then just burn the SD card.
5. You must be wondering burn the SD card with the image mentioned there. Well, you can use that image or the one I am using, the image mentioned in the first post on this thread:
6. Once you have burned the image onto the SD card. You are almost done. Switch off the nook by keeping the power button pressed for sometime.
7. INsert the SD card. In case you are wondering where, I am tempted to say something but leave it :D. Check on youtube how to insert a SD card on nook color and u will get the idea. Its simple and no danger
8. Just start the nook and wait. and wait and wait... at least 3-4 mins. Once the nook starts, voila you are in a new world... Congrats.. U just softrooted a nook. If you didn't reach till here, follow the nookdevs link posted above. If still any issues. Post it as a comment here and I will try to get you the answer.

Now you must be thinking. What next ?
You need to get Android Market.
So to get android market you may have to get something called Android SDK and use adb to push it onto your nook. Hehehe.... I am just shitting jargon here. Don't worry. I will be simpler in words from now on.
Here are some easier steps for Windows guys: (For Linux and Mac users, you are 'brilliant' enough, isn't it :D)
1. Follow this blog to get the small custom Android SDK. ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910008
2. Once you have the easy ADB or SDK, follow this blog:
In case you are wondering what are those commands in the nookdevs blog, just copy paste them on Windows Command Prompt and run. Make sure there is something called adb command is reachable from where you are typing the command. adb is just a command name.
Voila. You have the android market now.

Now from here onwards, its a regular android tablet.

What SUCKS:
1. Wifi is pathetic on soft rooted nook. I am yet to find a solution. But it sucks.
2. Youtube is screwed up too bcos of that.
3. Need to get flash and all to make things work.

Have been suggested a book reader called Aldiko. I am yet to try that.

More laterz. Comment for reply :)

3 Idiots, The Five point someone controversy and Chetan Bhagat

Watched 3i today. Must say a great watch. The speech scene stole the show. My respect for Aamir, Hiru and Vidhu grew leaps and bounds but fell flat when I read about the "stars" reaction to Chetan Bhagat's request for the credit he deserved.
It is really sad that the makers still believe that Chetan is publicity hungry. Chetan is a legend amongst the engineering student and his latest novel, twittering and blog keeps him more closer to his audience than any of the three people mentioned above.
Anyone who has read the novel can easily identify parts of the movie being straight away 'lifted' from the novel. The novel is definitely an inspiration for the movie and this is the way it was promoted initially.
Talking about publicity hungry:
Vidhu Vinod Chopra: The man believed Eklavya was a perfect choice for India's Oscar nomination. Need we say more.
Aamir : Doesn't need any publicity, but why use Shahrukh or someone elses name to create controversy. You are a terrific actor yourself, just keep up the good work. Calling your dog Shahrukh isn't funny at all. I am no fan of Shahrukh the actor but I couldn't see the humor behind blogging about "Shahrukh" licking your legs. Sad stuff. Time to grow up.
Raju Hirani: I still see you as a humble human being. Just keep up the good work. We are desperately waiting for Mumnnabhai-3.

National Treasure : Part 2

Since a long time I have been planning to start blogging but couldn't get myself motivated, or in the words of Dr.J, I couldn't get 'tempo'. Everytime I thought lets blog, i felt i should have a real fantastic topic to write on, but the end of that wait for such topic and 'tempo' never coincided. Right now am getting a little bored and am just back from a movie.. National Treasure : The book of secrets. Its high time i start waiting for the 'interesting' topic. After all blogging is writing whatever u feel like. It may be fantastic for someone while boring for other.
Coming to the second para of my blog i have a feeling my tempo is going down to start something interesting. So before it hits rock bottom and starts hitting again, Here I go :
(PS : The movie review style has been borrowed from an award winning blogger friend of mine)
So I got the ticket for a 10'o clock show of Cage Nicholas (My gud friend Kurkure calls him that) starring National Treasure. I was able to take two more blokes(ENGLISH STYLE) with me, who find the idea of watching a movie in a hall interesting. More on them later.
As per a tautology, if you are going for a movie with Amol "Delay" Dharap you are definitely gonna get late. As per another Tautology, If you are late for a movie, It will definitely start on time. So that means you miss out on a major part.
Anyways as u must have discovered by now, we missed initial part of the movie. I think a good whole 15 min. Thanks to the trailers and reviews, we knew the plot and thus it wasn't a big loss.
As we got settled in the cozy seats of Europa, PVR, what we saw on the screen was a bit of a dampener. An aging Nicholas Cage. Ya ya.. He looked quite old than expected and then there was his lady love from part 1. For a moment i thought its some other actress playing the character and not Diane Kruger (She looked stunning in part 1). In the initial scenes the man who seemed to be taking the large piece of entertainment cake was Riley Poole, played by Justin Bartha.
He brings in a sort of continuation from part 1. Other characters look a lot different and as far as Ms Chase (Diane) is concerned, acting differently.
The movie gets interesting with the sequences in London. Before that i was just trying to catch up with the missed part. Though there is nothing out of the world in the sequence, but it sets the pace of the movie, which contrary to the reviews is quite pacy. Jon voight playing Patrick gates shares more screen space than the last version and he deserves it too.
Ed Harris seems to be wasted. He really rocked in The rock and A beautiful mind. but the character which he plays didn't have much of screen play.
Any sequel will always be compared with its prequel. Here is my comparison :
1. Part 1 may have been very pacy as part 2 bit it was definitely more gripping
2. I still remember sequences from part 1 and can hardly recall when did the interview come in part 2
3. The chemistry between Diane and Nicholas (Ya ya ..Thats how i address them) is no where close to what they shared in part 1. At times it seems enacted
4. Humor element is the savior of part 2, thanks to Bartha and Voight. Patrick Gates wife brings in a bit of situational comedy. Both the Gates seniors compliment each other pretty well.
5. I wud prefer the Villain ( Actor in the negative role) from part 1.
6. I need to study american history and Civil war to watch part 2. Part 1 needed me to just listen to the dialogues attentively (Information overload)
7. The gadget style (doors of stone opening and old markings remaining on the wall) looks quite exaggerated.
8. The plot to kidnap president sounds too easy. If American president is so easy to kidnap, why don't u kidnap Osama Bin Laden, Americans.
9. President's book... Interesting.( Is there really anything like area 52 ? Independence day says that the president doesn't know)
10. The sequence at the end where four people have to balance a platform is a gripping one.

Well thats my ten point wisdom on the part 2. On my way back i was thinking, if this movie was made in India, with no budget constraints, what can be the most possible star cast.
1. Nicholas Cage : Abhishek Bachann
2. Diane Kruger : Preity Zinta (Gosh she looks fat sometimes)
3. Jon voight : Amitabh Bachann
4. Justin Bartha : Rajpal Yadav ( He is the comic lead in every second movie yaar)
5. Harvey Keitel : Suneil Shetty ( will surely be wasted ) (Agent sadusky)
6. Ed Harris : Yashpal Sharma

If Ram Gopal verma made this movie, the start cast wud be :
1. Nicholas Cage : Mohit atwal
2. Diane Kruger : Nisha Kothari (Don't give her any dialogues please)
3. Jon voight : Amitabh Bachann
4. Justin Bartha : I don't give a damm. Comedy wud be done by Miss Kothari. She sucks
5. Harvey Keitel : SOme guy from south (Agent sadusky)
6. Ed Harris : Sushant singh

If I had to make this movie
1. Nicholas Cage : Neil Nitin Mukesh (He didn't overact when he cud in Johnny gaddar)
2. Diane Kruger : Kareena Kapoor ( She looks so stunning yaar. I don't take any logic for her)
3. Jon voight : Om Puri
4. Justin Bartha : Sharman Joshi
5. Harvey Keitel : Nana Patekar ( I will put in some comic relief thru him too)
6. Ed Harris : Mithun da ( i want to keep him in my movie. So what if its a small role. He will make the impact)

I think my first blog will easily become my longest blog ever.
I just recalled the saying which i read somewhere
"The key to make people read ur blog is to keep it short and interesting"
I feel i have faultered on both the grounds. So i better stop
Good night people. I assure you there is more to come, which will surely be more interesting.
Bbye...........
